| The lifeboat station sits right at the top of the Platt. From 1869 to 1933, the lifeboat station was in what is now the Boathouse stores next to the Old School Hotel up the hill on Fore Street. The boat had to be pulled down Fore Street with an iron carriage and ropes, barely fitting through the narrow street. |

| The lifeboat station has been used twice in Doc Martin. In Series 1, Episode 1, Martin and Colonel Spencer caught his wife with Ross the surfer in the station office. In Series 6, Episode 8, Al breaks a window on the side of the station to get in because he needs the defibrillator to save Caroline. |
