Front Left Corner
.
In this corner of the room are a couple of different points of interest.  To the right
of the opening to the Living Room is a small piece of wall that sometimes has a
hanging picture and is sometimes blank.  It also sometimes has a chair sitting
against the wall next to the hutch.  The hutch is a large cabinet with a 3 shelf
open hutch on top.  See the Kitchen Overview above for more info about the
hutch and how it sometimes moves along that wall.  To the right of the hutch, the
corner is usually empty, but starting in S6 there is a chest-tall fridge in that area.
On the left wall, very near the corner is usually some type of hanging picture or
bulletin board.
.

.
Series 2
.
.
.
In this series we get slightly better looks at the hutch.  There is nothing on the
wall to the left of the hutch this series.  Again, the hutch contains a lot of
unremarkable serving pieces, along with some plates and cups.  On the left side
of the middle shelf is a wicker basket that will move to the Living Room in S4.
There is a wooden case for one of Martin's clocks, but it doesn't look like it
contains the clock workings.  There's an ivory radio that appears to be Bakelite,
and a cute green stubby lamp.  The picture on the left wall is an old black & white
photo of the fishermen's storage units on the Platt.  If you look at the photo, in
the upper right corner is where the balcony to The Golden Lion was added years
later.  Below the picture, the metal and canvas director's chair is still there.

In S2, there weren't very many views of this area - most of the screenshots I was
able to get are pretty blurry.  There were 2 B&W old photos hanging on the wall to
the left of the hutch, and no chair beneath.  The hutch, in this series only, was
painted dark brown with white insets on the lower cabinet doors.  There were
plates, cups, serving pieces in the hutch, but again, not many good views of
them.  In one view there is a tall lamp visible at the right end.  On the left wall is a
small rectangular seascape painting - this painting moved to the Consulting
Room for S3 & S4.  Against the wall below the painting was a metal and light
colored canvas director's chair (there are either a pair of them or this one is
occasionally moved to the right wall just to right of the hall door).  In the
Christmas Special, we only got a quick glimpse of that area and the only change
was to the lamp - the new one was a stick lamp with a small white pleated shade.

Some changes in this series.  The hutch has been moved over to the corner and
the right edge now sits up against the left wall.  This creates more room on the
left side for a larger painting on the wall.  For the first time we see a wooden
kitchen chair up against that small piece of wall.  In this series there were 3
different chairs spotted there.  Starting in this series there were lots more
interesting pieces on the hutch.  They include the wooden mantle clock that we
saw in the Consulting Room and Living Room in S1-S3, the ivory Bakelite radio
from S3, the 2 black & silver tumblers that were in the Consulting Room in S1-S3,
a small wooden box with possible ivory inlays that matches one in the Waiting
Room this series, a wooden coffee grinder, and a short white ceramic lamp.

The picture on the left wall is a print based on a figure in a Mongolian painting
from 1280.  It was a painting of Kublai Khan by Liu Guandao.  The canvas
director's chair is gone - not to be seen again.

The hutch was moved back to the center of the small wall.  Not many good views
to the left, but it doesn't appear that anything was on that wall this series, nor did
I see any chairs against the wall.  The hutch was slightly more organized this
series and had a lot of plates leaning against the back, several pitchers and
teapots, and some egg cups.  Notable items include a glass jar filled with wine
corks, a tall ceramic (or cloisonne?) urn, and a short metal lamp with a tiffany
glass shade.  The urn showed up on the Living Room mantel in S7-S8.  The
painting on the left wall in this series was a little different than usually found in
the surgery - it might be an Italian piazza? (Perhaps Dr Dibbs' style?)  In this
series, we see a couple of different wooden chairs in this corner instead of to
the left of the hutch as in previous series.

Series 5

There is nothing on the wall to the left of the hutch this series, but 2 different
chairs were spotted there.  We also occasionally saw a brocade tasseled pillow
on the seat and a crocheted afghan on the back (This afghan shows up in the
waiting room in S7-S8).  To the right of the hutch is a new tall fridge, and on top
are some books and matching green items - a bowl, plate, and tall pitcher.  Inside
the bowl is a large multicolor striped ball and what looks like a pineapple.  There
is no artwork on the left wall this series - but a large bulletin board is in its place
and is pretty well covered with different pieces of paper and pictures.  The hutch
goes back and forth from organized to disorganized - probably Michael and
Louisa battling each other.  We see a large tin (olive oil possibly?), the jar filled
with corks, several different gold tea service pieces, a lot of green plates, cups,
and glasses, a light green glass bowl with a silver pedestal (this was in the
Consulting Room in S5), (a bronze glass pitcher and the light green glasses
match some that are in the Consulting Room this series), the little metal bird that
was in the window over the sink in S5 shows up a couple of times, the green
Buddha head (that was in the Consulting Room in S4 and the Waiting Room in
S5), and a new classic radio.  In this series we get a couple of peeks to see
what's inside this piece of furniture.  One shot of the interior of the left drawer,
and a couple of times in the lower right cabinet.  Funny - because the first time
(Episode 2) it was filled with serving dishes and pans (same as in S5 when
Morwenna went on a cleaning spree), but in Episode 4, Martin opens up the
same cabinet door and it's filled to the brim with boxes and tins of food.

Still no picture on the wall to the left of the hutch, and an old wooden chair sitting
against the wall.  The items in the hutch have not changed substantially from the
last series.  The metal bird and the Buddha head are gone - the Buddha head has
moved to the Living Room.  The one notable new addition is some of the small
brown bowls with the red interiors.  We have seen them in the Consulting Room
and the Waiting Room in different series.  On top of the fridge is a brown metal
canister that has a locking lid - the canister occasionally moved down to the lower
shelf of the hutch.  The bulletin board remains on the left wall and they added one
of the small landscape paintings in the tramp art frames that was first seen in the
Living Room in S5 and moved to the back wall of the Kitchen in S6.

Again, no pictures on the wall to the left of the hutch, but the chair against the
wall is a much more delicate looking wooden one than we normally see in the
Kitchen.  The items in the hutch are mostly unchanged from the previous series.
There is a potted plant (looks like some type of succulent) and a small vase with
silk flowers that moves from the hutch to the top of the fridge.  The brown metal
canister is still on the fridge and we occasionally see the large multicolored
stripped ball.  The front of the fridge, for the first time, holds the rota and
magnetic letters and numbers that you often see in a home with children.  The
left wall is unchanged with the bulletin board and the small landscape.

There's a new wooden chair sitting to the left of the hutch and most of the series
it had a peach and white patterned throw on the seat.  In one scene in Episode 8
there was a solid color peach throw on the back of the chair.  Most of the items in
the hutch are familiar from past series.  The cute little metal bird has returned - it
was last seen here in S6.  Also, a small decorative wooden box that was in
the Waiting Room in S4 & S5 has now found its way to the hutch.  In one episode,
one of the familiar brown jugs held flowers on the lowest shelf.  On top
of the fridge is a collection of larger ceramic bowls and the striped ball - although
the ball sometimes disappears and can be spotted inside the pantry.  There is a
new small green ceramic lamp on top of the fridge.  The bulletin board remains on
the wall, but the small picture has moved to the other side of the pantry door -
often hidden behind the back door when it is open.

Something happened to
the chair sitting next to

there was a noticable
crack in the left edge of
the chair back. By
Episode 8, the broken
piece of wood was gone.
.
And an odd thing I noticed - in
Episode 4 it appeared that the
hutch had been moved over to
the left.  I couldn't see any obvious
reason for the move (it has to be
difficult to move that large piece
of furniture just packed with
breakable items).  You can see the
difference in the width of the wall.

Pantry
.
In the middle of the left wall is a wooden door to a small pantry.  The door has 4
glass panes - 3 of them are textured opaque and the lower left one is non-
textured and only slightly opaque.  There was a little red sign in the lower left
window in S2 and it remained there until S3E3 when it disappeared and we never
saw it again (could not read what it said).  The interior of the room is covered in a
beige and light brown patterned wallpaper.  Across from the door is a tiny
mullioned window set high on the wall.  On that wall is a counter with a pair of
white appliances below.  The one on the right is a clothes washer and on the left
is either a dishwasher or a small fridge - it changed a few times.  On the left are
several shelves attached to the wall.  We only get a few glimpse of them, but they
contain miscellaneous items, including food in one episode.  We never see the
right side of the room.
.
.
Series 2
.
.
In this series a blue wooden shelf that looks like a large birdhouse is sitting on
the counter right below the window.  In the window are a couple of clear glass
bottles.  We can spot a small framed picture leaning against the wall on the left,
and on the right, in E1, there is a framed print that will hang in the Kitchen in the
Back Right Corner starting in E3.  In a couple of different screenshots we can see
the fridge on the left (Martin puts the carton of milk in there in E4), an open area
that seems to be storing trays and maybe cutting boards, and a clothes washer
on the right (this is the only time we see the round front window on the machine).
The little red sign on the door is there for E1 & E2, but is gone starting in E3.

.
Series 3
.
.
.
.
.
There was only one shot of this room in S2 and we could barely make out what
might have been in there.  I'm assuming that the white appliance we can see was
a fridge, because there was not one visible in the main area of the Kitchen.
.
.
Not much of a look into the pantry during this series.  The blue birdhouse shelf is
still there and the fridge is still visible.
.
.
Series 4
.
.
There are a couple of changes this series.  The fridge has been moved out to
under the counter on the back wall - replacing the dishwasher.  The dishwasher
that was there is now on the left side of the pantry.  I have to assume that the
appliance on the right is a clothes washer, but it doesn't have a window on the
front, and it couldn't be a top loader since it is under a counter.  Not sure what
else it could be.  The blue birdhouse shelf is still there.  For the first time we can
see the shelves along the left wall.  In the first few episodes, it's a tall shelf with
wooden hooks underneath (this was the shelf on the wall in the Back Left Corner
next to the back door in S2 and S3).  But in Episode 4, Louisa goes into the pantry
looking for her chocolate biscuits and it's now 3 shelves covering that wall.  But
in later episodes it goes back to the tall shelf.
.
.
Series 5
.
.
Now that the house is a family home, this room has been turned into mainly a
laundry room.  The 3 shelves on the left wall are back and the large blue
birdhouse shelf is gone.  The dishwasher is still on the left (although a new silver
one has been installed under the back counter - so they have 2 now).  There's a
new silver towel rack attached to the front of the counter.  In one shot we can
see just the top of what looks like a pretty floral painting - but I've never seen it
anywhere else.  Mostly we see plastic and wicker laundry baskets and drying
racks.

There are only a couple of shots into the messy laundry room.  The dishwasher is
still there on the left and the new towel bar seems to be broken hanging off the
edge of the shelf.

Series 7
.
.
With the family more settled into the house, this room has been cleaned up - the
broken towel bar has been removed, a pitcher of silk flowers and a vase of pussy
willows sit on the counter, but the wallpaper is starting to pull away from the wall.
There's a straw hat on the counter, and in some of the episodes we can see the
large round straw basket that has been in the Waiting Room for several series.
The 2nd dishwasher is still visible.

the pantry while Martin and Louisa are

all through this series.
.
.
.
.
Most of the items visible on the shelves remain from last series.  The old
dishwasher remains here as it has been since S6, even after it was replaced by a
new one in the kitchen on the left end of the counter.  There is a distinctive
tall pink vase in here that matches a blue one we saw in the Waiting Room in
S6.  The striped ball moves from the fridge to the pantry and the brown
metal canister was also moved into here from the top of the fridge the last few
series.  One of the brown jugs that we have seen in lots of places over the last
few series was sitting in here for at least one episode.  A thin starfish that
matches the one on the back window sits in the pantry window.  There is a new
large blue tin bread box.  During one scene the drying rack is in use sitting on
the floor.  In Episode 2, there is a shot from inside the pantry and the planter
that was sitting on the counter next to the back door for most of the series was
inside the pantry.

Back Left Corner
.
This area of the Kitchen has two features - a wall mounted shelf/coatrack, and the
door that leads to the back patio.  The shelf is made from wood and has several
wooden pegs.  On top of the shelf are a variety of decor items that change from
series to series.
.
.
In this series there are 3 potted plants on the shelf and a couple of unidentified
objects.  One of the items hanging on the hooks is a string of small wooden fish -
we will see these appear hanging on these hooks on and off in all but S4 and S6.
The door is the white painted Dutch door.
.
.
Series 2
.
.
.
.
There are two different shelves that
occupy this space.  In S2 and S3 it's
painted a light green color and has 5
square-ish pegs.  Starting in S4 a
new shelf appears that is painted a
beige color to match the wall.  This
one has 7 round pegs.
.
.
.
There are 3 different back doors in
the kitchen.  The one in the first
series (not the kitchen that was
constructed on the set) was painted
royal blue and had glass panes
covering most of the door.  When
they constructed the set, it became
a wooden Dutch door with a small
window with bull's eye glass. The
door was painted white on both
sides, with brown wooden trim on
the inside of the door.  The outside
of the door had large decorative
strap hinges.

In S4 there was a new door.  It was
a one piece door with panels on
the bottom and 5 pebbled glass
windows on top in different colors.
This door remained for S4 & S5.

Starting in S6, the Dutch door
returned.  It had a new paint job -
more of a beige color all over
(inside and out) that matched the
interior walls.  In addition to the
color, the outside handle was
changed, and the bull's eye glass
window looks like it might have
been changed.  It's very similar, but
I'm not sure it's the same piece of
glass.

string of fish, a light grey & white striped apron, various dish towels, and a
colorful towel depicting Cornish Harbours - that towel shows up all around the
kitchen over the run of the show.  The door is unchanged from S2.

There were a lot of changes in the kitchen this series, and that includes the new
shelf.  The old green one appeared in the pantry for part of S5 before it
disappeared.  This new shelf is painted to match the walls and has 7 pegs.  The
pegs aren't all perfectly lined up, and the second one from the left always looks
slightly higher than the rest.  The light grey & white striped apron still hangs
there and another one that Martin wears, white with horizontal grey stripes at the
bottom, also appears there at times - and one time was draped on the radiator
below.  We also see a couple of dish towels, and all series long there is a suit
brush hanging there. On top of the shelf are 2 tall clear glass decanters, a carved
wooden clock that was in the Consulting Room in S2 & S3, a matching pair of
short dark ceramic (?) containers, a matching pair of short clear glass containers,
and a bean pot.  For this series only, there were radiators found in several places
in the Surgery - including this one on the wall below the shelf.

The other change is the new back door.  The new one is a one piece wooden
door with panels at the bottom and 5 pebbled glass windows on top in different
colors.  The interior side of the door is painted to match the walls and the
exterior side is painted black, but is very well-worn.

In S5 there are a number of items on the shelf.  A decorative plate that has what
looks like a fish in high relief.  On both ends of the shelf are pairs of small pottery
apothecary jars, one white pair and one dark brown pair.  We see these small jars
all over the Kitchen and even in the Living Room.  There is also a gold colored
covered sugar bowl, a pair of the green glasses that match ones in the hutch,
and a brown pottery mug.  Hanging on the pegs are the wooden fish, two
different aprons, and an assortment of scarves and jackets.  In two episodes
(Episode 3 and Episode 5) the sweater that Louisa wore in S4 (Episode 6 when
she was running the high fever) is hanging there.

The door is unchanged from S4.

In this series there are an assortment of nondescript bottles and vases on the
shelf.  But there are two interesting things that are tucked in between most of the
time - a small photograph of a baby (is it supposed to be James?) and a small
clamshell - there is a matching one on the window above the sink.  In Episode 6,
the third peg from the right was damaged and hung much lower than the rest
(you can see in a couple of the pictures below).  It was fixed in the next episode.
There were an assortment of jackets, sweaters, scarves, and tote bags hanging
there this series.

In S6, the Dutch door returned to the Kitchen with just a couple of slight
changes.  It was painted to match the walls on both the interior and exterior sides
of the door.  The decorative strap hinges and lock remain, but the pull on the
outside of the door is new.  The window appears to be the same as when the door
was there in S2 & S3, but it looks slightly different, so it may have been changed.

other miscellaneous items.  On the pegs, the wooden fish are back after missing

fish, jackets, scarves, tote bags, the cute children's wellies, and another sweet

twine.  The wooden fish are no longer hanging from the pegs, but there is an
assortment of cardigans, jackets, scarves, one of James' bibs, and a straw hat.
James' backpack is also seen at times.  There has never been anything on the
wall to the right of the shelves (behind the door) in the past, but this series they
moved the small picture from the other side of this wall to this spot.  This is one
of a pair of small landscapes in tramp art frames that have been hanging in the
Kitchen and Living Room since S5.  Its twin is between the back windows.

Christmas Special
The Kitchen changed greatly from S1 to S2.  In S1, I believe they used a kitchen in a cottage
somewhere in or around Port Isaac.  There were actually very few scenes set in the kitchen that
first series, so it makes sense that they were able to procure it a couple of times to shoot all of
the scenes.  In Episode 1, just a short scene with Martin and Eileen.  In Episode 3, the night
scene when Martin is brewing tea and Bert comes in to deliver some of his bottled water.  And
then in Episode 5 there were several scenes - most of them very short.  Some with Eileen, a
couple with Martin and Aunt Joan, and a couple of Martin at night before heading up to sleep.
One feature of this kitchen is that there is no opening to the Living Room - there is a window
visible in a couple of small glimpses we get of that wall.  (In the few Living Room shots that first
series, they actually shot in the room in Fern Cottage, which is used only for exterior filming.)

When they came back to film S2, they had constructed a set in the barn for the Kitchen and
Living Room.  They really did a nice job of making the set as similar as possible to the room
used in the first series.  You can see the comparisons in the S1 section below.

The room is almost completely open on the front to the Living Room, which is 2 steps down from
the Kitchen.  There is a sloped ceiling that starts above the windows on the back wall and rises
up at an angle toward the Living Room.  We've never really gotten a view of the front part of that
ceiling, but the ceiling in the Living Room is back to normal height.  On the right wall is a door
with a large stained glass insert.  This door leads down a short hallway to the Consulting Room
and the Waiting Room and is usually kept open, but has been closed on a few occasions.  Along
the back wall are two double hung windows, the one on the left is flanked by two narrow
sidelight windows.  The window on the right is opaque stained glass panels, similar to the one
on the hallway door.  Below the windows is a long counter that contains the sink, stove,
sometimes a dishwasher or under-counter fridge, and a few open and closed cabinets.  At the
left end of the back wall is a door leading out to the patio behind the surgery.  The left wall
contains the door to a small pantry, and the short front wall (that's not open to the Living
Room) has a large wooden hutch with closed cabinet space and two drawers below, and open
shelving above.
