Aunt Ruth is concerned that she is becoming increasingly forgetful and a visit to Martin seems to
confirm that there is reason for that concern. Penhale thinks he has a crime spree to investigate, but
is disappointed when he realizes that Ruth's house did not suffer a break-in - she just left her purse in
a shop. But Martin puts the clues together and suspects she is suffering from carbon monoxide
poisoning, which is confirmed by Al and Bert. Louisa has her professor and four classmates over for a
presentation, but it all goes haywire when one of them wanders into the surgery and Martin diagnoses
him with a serious condition, and another student is allergic to Buddy. Ruth's new neighbor is an animal
lover and attracting cats to Ruth's porch. After finding the neighbor unresponsive, they discover that
she has been bitten by the seal residing in her bathtub. The episode ends with a party in the pub where
they celebrate Martin's birthday and a new, planned, surprise proposal from Al to Morwenna.
